Hi runners, I hope everyone is having a good week. Special farewell wishes this week to Marc who is heading back to the Netherlands and our very own Miss Orlando Christine – safe travels folks and we look forward to staying in touch! Well done to everyone who joined us for last weeks Mardi Gras Fun Run. The forecasted rain held off for more than enough time to allow everyone to make it back. Congratulations to all our place getters who I am sure will treasure the incredibly valuable prizes for the rest of their lives! Thanks Wayne for finding them, as well as organizing the food and drink. This Sunday its time for Dragon Boating – check out below or facebook for all the details – good on ya Lisa for organizing this. Lisa will also be Vice President this week as I wont be at running. I’d also like to send best wishes to the 6ft track participants who have their big race on Saturday – good luck folks! Until next time, take care ….. Ben

| Hi runners…..
Whilst we are running this Saturday – think about those brave SFR members running the high ranges of the Blue Mountains in the Six Foot Track marathon….. it will be a hard slog – hope the weather stays cool! Good luck all!!! And sad farewells to Marc VDB and Christine S who are leaving our shores this week – see you both in Cologne! Mardi Gras is over for another year and every member who participated in one of our many events – or ALL of them – thanks for your support. Special thanks to all those who managed or helped out in any way. Last weekend Luke, Brian and Phil did a lot of admin for our run – thanks guys! Much appreciated. Parramatta Frontrunners

Parramatta Frontrunners kicks off on Saturday December 5 from the Queens Road entrance to Parramatta park (Westmead side). Longer run begins at 8am and the club 5K run/walk will begin at 9am. Everyone is welcome to attend this inaugural run.
Just bring yourself, your friends, family and dog. Maybe some water to drink and wear comfortable clothing.
Members from Sydney Frontrunners will be onhand to welcome you. And lets do coffee after the run! It’s a tradition!

SFR takes out Maroubra Fun Run 8k teams

Members of SFR won the 8K teams event in the Maroubra fun run today. And the 4K team came 6th – not bad considering there were over 20 registered teams in the event.
High humidity with the threat of rain and those challenging hills did not worry the SFR squad as they made their way around South Maroubra. Matt W came in third place overall in the 4K after a challenging month of competition. Wayne M won his 4K age group and was surprised with his result. Jeannie and Priscilla both enjoyed the run with Jeannie doing her fastest time this season.
In the 8K Steven S did a great time with Dennis J – recovering from some minor surgery, managing a 5th place in his age group. Jim B ran hard to secure 1st place in his age group with Gerry G not far behind. Michael S ran well to bring the team home.
Well done everyone… trophies presented next week.
World Masters Games 2009

Sydney Frontrunner members did an amazing job at the WMG09 held at Homebush last week. A remarkable effort by Matthew Webster who finished the competition with 3 gold medals (8K cross country, 5000m track, 1500m track) and one silver medal (800m track) in his age group. Fabulous results also from Jim Box, Robert Forrest, Kieron Blackmore, Dennis Johnson and Matthew Lynch. Dennis and the two Matthews combined with Alan Jones (from AE) to come sixth place in a hot contest in the 4X400

Attacks on LGBT athletes in Copenhagen

Statement from the Federation of Gay Games **concerning attacks on LGBT athletes in Copenhagen
“We condemn the violent attacks against LGBT athletes and spectators during the OutGames taking place this week in Copenhagen, Denmark.
This week we are all Copenhageners and we stand in solidarity with OutGames organizers and the very gay-friendly people of Copenhagen against this kind of violence.
Our thoughts are with the runner injured by the explosive devices at the Track Stadium today and the people who were attacked on Sunday.
We are pleased to hear that all injuries have been minor and that runner will still likely be able to compete. We extend our full support to all the participants at the OutGames.
Copenhagen has a reputation as one of the most LGBT friendly places on earth. Even there, we are reminded that our community still faces those that would deny us our basic human rights, even the freedom to run in a track meet in safety. But we will not be discouraged; rather, we will run, swim, jump, throw, grapple, volley and perform at events like the Gay Games and OutGames, celebrating our right to love who we want.”

Hi runners
Great to see so many at Bruno on Friday – 40 of us laughed our way through the film, and how civilized to see it in a cinema where you can drink beer! Fortunately that didn’t stop a big turnout on Saturday morning where we took our first run to Vaucluse. Just a reminder…Frontrunners doesn’t run on gay time – we set off at 8 or 9 sharp, so don’t be late!
Now I know last week I said I wouldn’t be at Bruno and then I turned up – but this week I’m definitely not there as I’m at the Country Estate. City to Surf training run/regular coast run at 8am or 5k at 9am. Have a good week and Ill see you on the 25th if not earlier

Parramatta Duathlon
Sunday 12 July saw the start of a cool but not too cold cloudy morning for round 2 of the Hills District Duathlon. The race consists of a 3.2km run/19.2km bike/3.2km run around the very pretty Parramatta Park. A bit like Centennial Park but arguably nicer for cyclists as it has really fast downhill swoops and a nice meandering loop with a sting of a hill.
The rain managed to hold off until the very end of the race.

NSW Sport and Recreation Training Course: Running your Club – It’s your
Business Wednesday 26 August, 6.30pm – 10pm (Marrickville council project)
This training course has been developed to help volunteer office-bearers
of non-profit local sporting clubs to fully understand their obligations.
There will be descriptive checklists, templates, hypothetical exercises
and supporting information to provide practical solutions and guidance to
attendees.

Jamaica Blue fun run – PINK……….. GALS….. and guys
To be run on 2 August 2009 in Centennial Park, Sydney, the event is a great warm up for Triathlon Pink or a great stand alone event for those that are not so keen on triathlon. Distances will be 2.5km, 5km and 10km (take your pick) and the course will be on a fun cross country course.
Oh and this time we have not forgotten about the boys….there will also be a 1km All Male Dash but there is a catch the men need to wear pink outfits to get on the start line! You can watch the men have some fun from the comfort of the Jamaica Blue on site coffee lounge.

Great news members – the new-look SFR race singlet arrives this week and YOU can acquire one or more this Saturday for just $40. There is a limited first realease supply of 74 singlets (male and female).
Frontrunners team wins 8k run…

SYDNEY FRONTRUNNERS 8K team WIN Maroubra Fun run.
Maroubra – Sunday 14 October – It’s normally a hot day but surprise, surprise it stayed a cool 20C. The 8K runners geared up for the hills of Maroubra and tackled every step like sea eagles flying towards some tasty morsels. Lead by Matt W (29m 34s) the five members chased each other up and down the hills in order to retain the 8K trophy which the club has now won for many years. 1012 entrants took part in this – the biggest ever Maroubra Fun run! Congrats to all team members – Matt W, Brett O, Dennis J, Jim B & Chris DC. Zoe K was a scratching.
Following the run members enjoyed a quick but refreshing dip in the Pacific and a yummy brunch at a local restaurant with some Atheltics East members.
The 4K team comprised of Andrew K, Matt L, Jeannie S, Priscilla, Robert F, Tony F and Wayne M performed admirably but were beaten by a team whose average age was below 20!!! Well done runners and thanks to everyone who participated in this the final fun run of 2007.
