On Saturday 27th May, 2017 bright and early, Jacaranda Cottage is hosting a 10km fun Walk/Run to raise money and awareness to continue the important work of addressing or reducing youth homelessness in the Shire.
Jacaranda Cottage is a local youth refuge for girls, between the ages of 16-24. It has been housing homeless young girls in the Shire since 1992. We build girls self-worth, teach living skills and get them ready to move on independently. These girls come from situations of abuse, neglect, and environments with very little hope. Our vision at Jacaranda Cottage is to Impart Hope, Facilitate Restoration, and Celebrate Transformation.
Recently, we had a girl come to us desperate to break out of addictive behaviours, riddled with the anxiety and depression that seems to be taking over and overwhelming a generation. We walked alongside her restoring her back to believe that she could actually dream for a future without all that. This seemed impossible to her at first. However, having people in her life who weren’t going to give up on her, who were a good influence, that were consistent, were invested and genuinely cared about her life and future, changed the whole game for her.
We have girls living with us through their HSC, through trauma, through 18th birthdays, through heartbreak and triumph alike.
We receive some state funding however in order to keep running our refuge and offering the support that we do, we need to fundraise. The Run to Restore costs $40 to register which includes free breakfast and all of the money goes directly to the refuge. Our hope is that participants will ask friends and family to sponsor them to run in order to reach our goal. Our aim is to raise $10,000.
We would love to have you participate. To register or for more information go to www.jacaranda.org.au
Looking forward to seeing you there.
